Osteopathy

Osteopathy aims at an holistic approach to therapy and through this tries to stimulate the natural recuperative faculties of the body. An osteopathic treatment always encompasses and affects the whole body. The term ‘osteopathy’ was coined by the American doctor Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. Still did not only look at the symptoms of an illness, but also concentrated on the reasons behind this illness. The literal translation of ‘osteopathy’ is “sickness of the bone” but of course this simple translation cannot explain the philosophy of osteopathy. The main idea is to show that the body is extremely exposed to all sorts of influences which can be at the root of a somatic dysfunction.
